A few sketches done this week

Just for fun I got myself a regular drawing book usually used in schools.
It cost around Rs. 20/- that's 30 cents! Surprisingly it turned out great
for daily Sketches and studies! The size is great for carrying around
and the pages have a nice not so obvious texture that works great with pencil!

Need to try Copic markers on this!

New Illustrations

A few Illustrations I did in between work. Usually when I sketch for fun, I don't plan the whole illustration but start with just one sketch and then build the rest of the characters and environment around it.
I don't know if its the better way but what I have realized is that once I see some subject on the paper I can visualize more things faster and better. Hence even when I am drawing my character I start with the face first. Once I see the personality I can draw the suitable body and gesture around it. Not a hard n fast rule but most of the time it works! :)

A quick illustration

SHRI
A small illustration based on an Idea. I wanted to do a quick sketch but I spent a little more time and having fun drawing the foliage behind! :D Hope you guys enjoy it. :)
Did one more with similar process. Started with a single character design sketch and then built the BG around it.

A few warm up sketches

Character designs based on online references

SHRI
A few quick character designs done based on a couple of interesting photos of Indian Middle aged men I saw online. Most Indian men will be engaged in a similar pose most mornings. Either wondering about political updates or trying to solve the crossword puzzles. :) The guys on the top right corner is wearing a Indian style Monkey cap quite often worn by older people.

A Quick Character Illustration

Did this quick Illustration while testing new digital brushes. I have finally sorted out my digital brushes and have brought it down to selected 40+. Need to get rid of more and keep the number close to 10. Having less brushes gives you a uniform rendering style to all your artworks. Although I prefer traditional media, I felt quite comfortable using Kyle webster's digital brushes. Totally worth spending $15! :)

A few pencil studies...

A few studies done using the references on the internet. I wasn't sketching with pencils for over a month now. I just purchased a Cintiq 22HD a month back so was exploring the digital sketching options. To be honest I didn't enjoy sketching on Cintiq as I do on real paper. The main reason is that you don't get that natural feeling of paper on the Cintiq screen. I mean the pencil brush has texture but one cannot physically feel it on the smooth surface of the screen! Hopefully after spending more time on it I will get a better hold of it. After all I spent a lot buying it! :P :D

A Sneak peek at a few more designs I finished for my next sketchbook

This week I could get some time to finish a few more designs for sketchbook02. I am almost done with the sketches. Its time now to figure out other things. BTW if you have purchased my sketchbook01, I would love to hear from you about the print n paper quality. Although the paper cost me nearly 01 lac Rupees extra, But I don't mind using the fine quality paper again! :)
